UN Deputy Secretary General: 'We are committed to fight against all forms of religious intolerance'
The UN Alliance of Civilizations is committed to combating all forms of religious intolerance, said the High Representative of the UN Alliance of Civilizations, Miguel Angel Moratinos, SİA informs.
He made the remark in the address to the participants of the international conference themed “Embracing Diversity: Tackling Islamophobia in 2024” held in Baku.
"Islamophobia remains a global issue, affecting Muslims in all over the world. Such prejudice against any faith or creed contradicts the foundational tenets of the UN Charter and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. It is widely recognized that Islam advocates for forbearance and balance. Indeed, the essence of all religious teachings is the embracement of values like empathy, reciprocal comprehension, and mutual esteem," he highlighted.
Moratinos also called on the world to continue its efforts to build just, peaceful and inclusive societies.
He conveyed his best wishes to the Muslims of the world on the occasion of the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan.
