Kazakhstan's President appoints new Prime Minister

Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has appointed the former head of the administration, Olzhas Bektenov, as the new Prime Minister of the country.

SIA reports with reference to the press service of the Kazakh Presidential Office.

Deputies of the Kazakh Majlis (the lower house of parliament) gave their approval to the president's decision to approve Bektenov's candidacy for the position of head of government.

On February 5, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev accepted the resignation of the government led by Prime Minister Alikhan Smailov. The reasons for the resignation have not been disclosed.

The members of the Cabinet of Ministers were also instructed to continue their duties until the new government is approved.
