Somali authorities reported on Tuesday that a suicide bomb explosion in Mogadishu claimed three lives and injured two others, with the militant group al-Shabab claiming responsibility for the attack, SIA reports.
According to a police spokesman, the perpetrator detonated the bomb outside Mogadishu's Hamar Weyne district's Al Hindi restaurant while being pursued by law enforcement.
In a statement, al-Shabab, which is linked to al-Qaeda, stated that their target was local security officials and that there were casualties, but no specific numbers were provided.
The extremist group frequently launches attacks on military bases, civilians, and government establishments in their ongoing mission to overthrow Somalia's government and establish their own rule based on their extremist interpretation of Islamic Sharia law.
