Turkish security forces eliminated five PKK/YPG terrorists in the Afrin region of northwestern Syria, according to a statement from Türkiye's National Defense Ministry on Wednesday.
"The ministry strongly condemns the ongoing attack attempts by PKK/YPG terrorists which aim to disrupt the peaceful and secure environment," the statement read, released on X.
The neutralization of the terrorists took place within the Operation Peace Spring zone.
Since 2016, Ankara has launched three successful anti-terror operations across the border in northern Syria to prevent the creation of a terror corridor and facilitate the peaceful resettlement of civilians: Euphrates Shield (2016), Olive Branch (2018), and Peace Spring (2019).
The term "neutralize" is used by Turkish authorities to indicate that the terrorists either surrendered, were killed, or were captured.
The PKK, categorized as a terrorist organization by Türkiye, the US, and the EU, has been responsible for the deaths of over 40,000 people, including women, children, and infants, in its more than 35-year-long terror campaign against Türkiye.
