Last month, a secret meeting took place between Ukraine, its G7 allies and a small group of countries from the global South, SIA refers to Bloomberg.
The previously undisclosed December 16 meeting of national security advisers in Saudi Arabia followed larger, more public meetings aimed at countering Moscow's efforts to divide and portray Ukraine and its allies as “unwilling to negotiate an end to the war”.
Journalists said the secrecy was partly aimed at making participating countries feel more comfortable joining.
According to the interlocutors, the smaller format allowed for a freer and more frank discussion of Ukraine's peace formula and plans to advance this process, as well as the principles of potential interaction with Russia in the future.
Bloomberg writes that the allies' efforts have weakened in recent months. In the US and EU, more than $100 billion in life-saving aid has stalled in the approval process in Washington and Brussels, and Ukraine's counteroffensive last year has failed to make a major difference on the battlefield.
