UN Human Rights Council discusses and positively assesses Azerbaijan's report

The 4th periodic report of the Republic of Azerbaijan was considered on November 14 within the framework of the 44th session of the Working Group on the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) of the UN Human Rights Council, SİA informs, citing the Foreign Affairs Ministry of Azerbaijan.

Azerbaijan was represented at the event by a delegation led by Deputy Foreign Minister Samir Sharifov.

During the review of the UPR, held every five years, the state of compliance by a UN member state with international obligations in the field of human rights protection is assessed and appropriate recommendations are made to the state, whose report is heard by other states.

In his speech, the deputy minister provided detailed information about the work carried out in Azerbaijan, cooperation within the framework of international human rights mechanisms, the state program “Great Return”, the problem of refugees and internally displaced persons arising as a result of Armenian aggression, facts of violation of the rights of Azerbaijanis, the problem of missing persons, etc.

As part of the consideration of the UPR on Azerbaijan, representatives of about 120 UN member states spoke and presented recommendations regarding human rights in Azerbaijan.

The vast majority of countries highly appreciated the human rights reforms being carried out in Azerbaijan and recommended continuing the positive dynamics in this area.
