Chairman of Sudan sovereign council issues decree dissolving paramilitary forces

Chairman of Sudan's Transitional Sovereign Council and General Commander of the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan on Wednesday issued a constitutional decree dissolving the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

According to a statement by the sovereign council, Al-Burhan instructed the Sudanese army's General Command, the general secretariat of the sovereign council and other concerned authorities to put the decision into effect, SIA refers to foreign media.

The decision came “as a consequence of the rebellion of these forces on the state and the grave violations they committed against citizens, and the deliberate sabotage of the country's infrastructure,” said a Sovereignty Council statement.

Earlier, the US sanctioned Abdelrahim Hamdan Dagalo, the senior leader and regional commander of the RSF.

Since the beginning of the war between the RSF and the Sudanese armed forces on April 15, thousands have been killed and more than 4 million displaced, especially in Khartoum and Darfur state.
