Top EU official Borrell to arrive in Georgia on September 7

The EU's foreign policy chief Josep Borrell will be visiting Georgia on September 7-8, SİA informs via Georgian media.

The country's progress on the path of European integration will be considered as part of the visit.

The sides will also exchange views on a broader range of foreign policy and regional issues.

Borrell is expected to meet with Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili, Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili, after which they will hold a joint press conference.

In addition, a meeting is planned with the country's Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili. The EU diplomacy chief will also hold meetings with all parliamentary political parties and with representatives of the civil sector.

In June 2022, the European Council recognized Georgia's European perspective and expressed readiness to grant it the status of an EU candidate country as soon as 12 conditions are met (deoligarchization, depolarization, improvement of the media environment, ensuring full independence of the judiciary, etc.).
