UN adopts resolution acknowledging effects of extremism on global peace
The UN Security Council unanimously adopted a resolution on Wednesday acknowledging the role of hate speech, racism and other forms of intolerance in fuelling conflicts, SIA refers to foreign media.
Jointly drafted by the UAE and the UK, the resolution also highlighted the adverse effects of gender discrimination and acts of extremism on global peace and stability.
All 15 countries included in the UN Security Council unanimously agreed to the adoption of the resolution, SIA reports.
In the resolution, it was emphasized that the member states of the UN are in favor of living in peace with each other, and the necessity of international cooperation in solving economic, social, cultural and humanitarian problems was confirmed.
The resolution also emphasized the importance of the protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms of all member states, and the significance of education systems serving peace.
The resolution confirmed that issues such as hate speech, racism and xenophobia can lead to the start, exacerbation and recurrence of the conflicts.
The UN Secretary General was also asked to prepare a report on the implementation of this resolution.
