Ministry of Defense: Ukraine will receive algorithm for joining NATO at July summit

At the July NATO summit in Vilnius, Ukraine will receive an algorithm for joining the Alliance, Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine Volodymyr Gavrilov said.

Report informs citing UNIAN that, according to him, at the summit "they will reach a certain procedure for Ukraine's entry, which will be fixed." Despite the consensus decision-making mechanism and the right to veto of the Alliance member countries, he does not predict that there will be big problems with the decision-making on Ukraine.

"There are all signs that Ukraine will get what it wants in a certain format. Already at the summit in Vilnius, Ukraine should clearly understand that after the war, say within one or two years, after certain procedural things are carried out, we will become NATO members" the deputy minister said.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on June 3 that it would make no sense for Ukraine to participate in the NATO summit in Vilnius if, following its results, the country does not have clear signals regarding the timing of its admission to the Alliance.

Ukraine applied for NATO membership in the fall of 2022. The Alliance said that this is possible only after the end of the war.
