Against the backdrop of a wave of tension in the Balkans, the European Commission (EC) announced a new plan to accelerate the integration of these states into the European Union, President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen said at a security conference in Slovakia, SİA informs.
“The recent tensions are worrisome... I reiterate the call for all parties to step back from confrontation and take steps to restore calm. Today I want to introduce a new initiative... This is a new growth plan for the Western Balkans. We must bring closer the integration of these countries into the European Union,” she said.
According to her, the EU wants to "develop the progress made in recent months." "But we also intend to provide some of the benefits of EU membership today," - added the head of the EC.
