Poll: Erdogan to win second round of presidential election with 53.7% of votes

Incumbent Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will win 53.7% of the vote in the second round of the presidential election, which will be held on May 28, according to a survey by the Turkish Research Foundation, SİA informs referring to the Hürriyet newspaper.

The poll was attended by a total of more than 3,000 people in 26 provinces of the country. Citizens aged 18 years and older, eligible to vote and residing in Türkiye were surveyed.

“According to the forecasts of this study, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will be re-elected with 53.7% in the second round of presidential elections. It is estimated that in the second round there will be a shift of 1.75% in favor of Erdogan and 1.25% in favor of Kemal Kilicdaroglu from 5% of the votes given to ex-candidate Sinan Ogan in the first round, and the remaining swing voters will be distributed proportionally,” reads the report.

When respondents were asked why they voted for Recep Tayyip Erdogan in the first round, 41.2% answered: “Because I trust and believe in him”, 29.6% answered “For stability”, 24.8% answered “For delivering on his promises” and 4.4% answered “For reactions to other parties.”

Erdogan won 49.51% of the votes in the first round of the presidential elections, while Kilicdaroglu got 44.88%.
