Kyiv will not purchase F-16 fighters from United States - White House Press Secretary

Ukraine needs aircraft capable of becoming an element of air defense. That is why the F-16 fighter is a priority compared to the outdated A-10 Thunderbolt attack aircraft, Minister of Defense of Ukraine Oleksiy Reznikov said in an interview with Liga, SIA reports.

Reznikov stressed, that air defense systems are Ukraine’s No.1 priority, along with “munitions, munitions, and more munitions.”

"We need air defense elements capable of hitting an enemy aircraft, as well as a cruise or ballistic missile, as well as, if necessary, ground targets - warehouses, command posts, as well as the area where equipment is accumulated," the Minister of Defense stated.

According to Reznikov, the Ukrainian authorities have already discussed the delivery of A-10 Thunderbolt aircraft to the Armed Forces of Ukraine with Washington, but the minister noted that "this aircraft is a slow, heavy flying fortress" and cannot hit distant targets.

Earlier, the press secretary of the White House, Karine Jean-Pierre, stated that despite the arrival of Ukrainian military pilots, Kyiv will not buy F-16 fighters from the United States.

The press secretary said that they will undergo a training course in the United States to fly NATO-type aircraft in the future.
