“The USA and its allies are trying to prolong the conflict as much as possible,” Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu said on a conference call reported by Russia’s Ministry of Defense on Tuesday, SIA refers to foreign media.
According to Shoigu, the West has started supplying Kiev with heavy offensive weapons for this purpose. Moreover, Western countries are openly calling Ukraine to seize Russian territories.
NATO has offered Ukraine weapons to fight Russia, but has repeatedly insisted that they must be used in a defense capacity and not deployed against targets on Russian territory.
Such steps, he added, bring NATO into the conflict “and can lead to an unpredictable level of its escalation.”
Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said that a decision has not yet been made on the supply of fighter jets to Ukraine.
Earlier, Jens Stoltenberg also declared that NATO is not and will not be a party to the conflict in Ukraine.
