Mark Angel elected as new vice-president of the European Parliament

Luxembourgish Mark Angel (S&D) was elected as the new Vice-President of the European Parliament in place of Eva Kaili, SIA refers to foreign media.

The election was held during the plenary session in Strasbourg.

Angel was elected in the second round after failing to obtain a majority of votes in the first round.

In the final round, Angel obtained 307 votes, against 185 of the Italian MP Annalisa Tardino (Lega) and 95 of the French Gwendoline Delbos-Corfield (Verdi/Ale), out of a total of 645 voters, of which 55 abstained.

The necessary majority was 296 votes.
