Greece to build 140-kilometer fence on border with Turkiye

The Greek Government Council for Foreign Affairs and Defense (KYSEA) has decided to build a fence along the entire length of the land border with Turkey along the Evros River, SIA refers to foreign media.

According to the Citizen Protection Minister Takis Theodorikakos, the length of the steel fence built on the banks of the Meriç (Evros) River will be 140 kilometers.

Participating in a program on SKAI TV, Theodorikakos claimed that 256 thousand illegal crossings were blocked by the Greek Police and stated that the decision to build a fence on the borders of Greece and Europe with Türkiye is the responsibility of the Ministry of Citizen Protection.

The construction of the first 35 km of the barrier will begin immediately. Its cost is estimated at €100 million.
