Turkish President: 'The world is watching the success of our UAVs with amazement'
"Türkiye's success in unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) is making world headlines," the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said at a ceremony in the capital Ankara, SIA refers to foreign media.
Erdogan spoke at the Science Awards Ceremony of the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Türkiye (TÜBİTAK) and the Turkish Academy of Sciences (TÜBA) in Ankara.
According to Turkish media, Erdogan drew attention to Türkiye's successes in the field of defense industry during his speech.
"The world makes headlines about our success in UAVs and watches it with amazement. In the process that started with Bayraktar TB2 for which songs were written, after the Akıncı SİHA (armed unmanned aerial vehicle) we then came to our unmanned combat aircraft Kızılelma," the head of state said.
Emphasizing that these successes in the defense industry are only the beginning, Erdogan said that Türkiye currently has a modern, developed science and technology ecosystem that competes with the world in terms of quality and quantity.
Tens of thousands of projects are implemented in research and development and design centers in Türkiye's technology parks.
Türkiye is not against its young people going abroad to gain experience, he said, adding on the contrary, the country supports it.
"We strengthen the science ecosystem and reverse the brain drain thanks to our researchers who return with the programs we have created," he added.
Türkiye is on the rise in science and technology, Erdogan said, adding: "This geography will once again become one of the leading centers of science and technology."
