Modern Turkiye is an example of innovative development and steps to reduce import dependence. A good example of this is the country's defense sector. So, 20 years ago there were 56 defense companies operating in Turkiye, today this figure exceeds 1,600, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said at the awarding ceremony for the winners of the Turkish Innovation Week in Istanbul on Monday, SİA informs via Anadolu.
“In 2002, Turkiye's exports of defense products did not exceed $248 million, but by the end of 2022 this figure is projected to be over $4 billion. The budget for Turkiye's defense projects has grown from about $5.5 billion to $75 billion, including initiatives that are at the tender stage,” said the Turkish leader.
According to Erdogan, success in the Turkish defense sector has been achieved despite numerous obstacles: hidden and open embargoes and restrictions.
Erdogan noted that in the production of unmanned aircraft, Turkiye is among the top three or four leading countries.
The head of state expressed gratitude to every company that contributes to the development of Turkiye and the formation of domestic brands.
Referring to the situation in the energy sector of the country, he said that oil production in Turkiye in 2023 is planned to be increased to 100,000 barrels per day.
President Erdogan also called the first domestic TOGG electric car an indicator of the country's technological development.
“The pride of Turkiye and the Turkish auto industry - the domestic TOGG electric car will appear on the roads in the coming months,” he noted.
The head of state assured that the government would continue to work to bring Turkiye to the top 10 of developed economies.
