Azerbaijan’s taekwondo team finishes CIS Games with strong medal haul
Taekwondo competitions at the third Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) Games, hosted in Azerbaijan for the first time, have come to an end, SİA reports citing local sources.
According to sources, on the second day of the tournament held at the “Kur” Olympic Training and Sports Center in Mingachevir, eleven Azerbaijani athletes reached the podium. Among the medalists were Vasif Salimov (gold), Nigar Abdullayeva, Leyla Bashirova, Semerrukh Osmanova, Zemfira Hasanzade, Zemfira Aslanova, Narmin Ansari, Fuad Maharramli, Mohammad Hasanli, Rza Asadli, and Khan Mammadzade.
A day earlier, the national team secured three gold, two silver, and six bronze medals.
In total, Azerbaijan’s taekwondo squad concluded the third CIS Games with twenty-two medals.
The Games, which brought together more than one thousand six hundred athletes from thirteen countries, will officially close on October 8.
