Aghdam-based Qarabag FK from Azerbaijan has secured a historic victory in their UEFA Champions League Matchday 1 match against Benfica, SİA informs.
Qarabag FK came back from 2-0 down.
In the 6th minute of the match, the home team's Enzo Barrenechea opened the scoring.
Ten minutes later, Vangelis Pavlidis extended his team's lead to two goals, but in the 30th minute, Qarabag midfielder Leandro Andrade equalized.
There were no further goals scored in the first half. The second half began with rapid attacks from Aghdam-based football club, which yielded results in the 48th minute, when Camilo Duran scored. In the 86th minute, Oleksiy Kashchuk scored the winning goal for Qarabag.
This victory marked the first in the history of the Aghdam club in the main stage of the UEFA Champions League, including the group stage, which was cancelled last season.
Prior to this, Qarabag FK drew twice with Atlético de Madrid in the 2017/2018 season.
Gurban Gurbanov's team will host Denmark's FC Copenhagen in Baku on October 1 in the second round.
