"Caspian Day" celebrated in Azerbaijan

August 12 - in connection with the Day of Environmental Protection of the Caspian Sea, a clean-up campaign was held in Zira settlement, Khazar region.

During the event attended by the employees of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, representatives of the State Tourism Agency, winners of the "Rise" competition, international organizations, UN Resident Coordinator in Azerbaijan Vladanka Andreyeva and volunteers who are members of the Azerbaijan Voluntary Organizations Union, the area near the coast was cleared of plastic and other waste, the institution's press service told SIA.

Later, the event was continued in the Absheron National Park located on the shore of the Caspian Sea, the participants were informed by experts about the environmental problems of the Caspian Sea and the work done in this area, and volunteers drew pictures on barrels reflecting the importance of protecting the Caspian Sea.

On the day of environmental protection of the Caspian Sea, clean-up campaigns were organized on the entire coastline of the Caspian Sea from the north to the south of Azerbaijan with the participation of local executive authorities, municipal representatives and local residents.

The Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources thanks the nature lovers and partners who actively participated in the events related to "Caspian Day" and showed care and sensitive attitude towards environmental protection.

It should be noted that after the Framework Convention on the Protection of the Marine Environment of the Caspian Sea came into force on August 12, 2006, this date is celebrated as "Caspian Day" every year.
