Christian Camille visited the National Library of Azerbaijan

On June 30, 2022, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Sweden to Baku, Mr. Christian Kamill, visited the National Library of Azerbaijan. The presentation of the book "Linnaeus Apostles: Global Science and Adventures" on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Sweden and Azerbaijan was held in the Hall of International Cooperation of the National Library. The book tells the story of Linnaeus and his companions' travels to different continents and their notes on animals, plants, and traditions. It consists of an assessment of their travels on all continents.

The event was organized by the director of the National Library prof. Karim Tahirov. Opening the meeting Tahirov stated that he was glad to see the ambassador at the National Library. He said it was no coincidence that the presentation was held at the International Cooperation Hall. Noting that there are 14 countries' corners in the International Cooperation Hall, Karim Tahirov said he hoped that the 15th corner would be Sweden.

"Mr. Ambassador's visit to the National Library will give impetus to the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the national libraries of the two countries. The books donated by the Ambassador to the National Library today will take their rightful place in the fund of the National Library and will be the first books on the future corner of Sweden" said prof. Karim Tahirov. Director Tahirov also expressed hope that in the future, events related to Sweden and meetings with Swedish writers will be held in that corner. In his speech, the director spoke about the international relations of the National Library and the international book exchange between the Swedish National Library and the National Library of Azerbaijan.

He also noted that he believes that Mr. Christian Camille will be an active reader of the National Library in the near future.

Mr. Christian Kamill thanked Prof. Karim Tahirova and noted that today's event was one of a series of events dedicated to the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries. Noting that there is mutual cooperation between Sweden and Azerbaijan in many areas, the ambassador expressed confidence that these relations will be further strengthened and developed.

Mr. Christian Camill then presented a book, on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Sweden and Azerbaijan, by the Swedish traveler and scientist Carl Linnea titled "Linnaeus Apostles: Global. Science and Adventures" to the National Library. He noted that the newly published books were first given to the National Library in Azerbaijan.

Prof. Karim Tahirov thanked the Ambassador and presented him books titled , “Azerbaijan National Library. Photo album ”(in Azerbaijani, English and Russian),“ Hello, Azerbaijan! ” (in English) and "Azerbaijani carpets in world collections" (in English).

A memorial photo was taken at the end of the event.

Then the ambassador and his family members got acquainted with the National Library. Detailed information was provided about the Open Library, Rare Books and Library Museum Department, Children's Corner and other departments.
