On June 11, Chairman of the Caucasus Muslims Office Sheikh-ul-Islam Allahshukur Pashazade visited the grave of Alexander Ishein, former archbishop of the Russian Orthodox Church in Baku and Azerbaijan, laid a wreath and prayed for the soul of the deceased. This was reported to SIA by the Caucasian Muslims Office.
Then a meeting was held with an official of the Russian Orthodox Church at the Caucasian Muslims Office.
Sheikh-ul-Islam Allahshukur Pashazadeh, Chairman of the CMB, recieved Archbishop Theophylact of Pyatigorsk and Cherkessk who arrived in Baku on the anniversary of the death of former Archbishop of the Russian Orthodox Church in Baku and Azerbaijan Alexander Ishein, and spoke about the role of inter-religious relations in the development of multiculturalism, the establishment of friendly relations between Azerbaijan and Russia, his contribution to the environment of inter-religious brotherhood and cooperation in Azerbaijan. He noted that Alexander Ishein, Archbishop of the Baku and Azerbaijan Dioceses of the Russian Orthodox Church, has been working as a bishop of the Baku Diocese since 1998, Archbishop since 2012.
Sheikh-ul-Islam A. Pashazadeh praised the fraternal relations with Archbishop Alexander, noting that he played a great role in the development of religious and spiritual relations between the Caucasian Muslims Office and the Russian Orthodox Church. Welcoming Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill, the CMB chairman expressed his hope that these relations would continue and develop.
Archbishop Theophylact of Pyatigorsk and Cherkessk, in turn, thanked Sheikh-ul-Islam A. Pashazade for his constant support to the late Archbishop Alexander, and said that the Russian Orthodox Church always appreciates this factor. Stressing that he operated in the Caucasus region, Archbishop Feofilakt described A. Pashazade as the greatest religious figure of the Great Caucasus. He stated that there is a great need for such wise and responsible clerics who guide the people of the world.
