Today marks another anniversary of the April battles that took place between Azerbaijan and Armenia in 2016.
SİA recalls that 10 years have passed since those historic battles that concluded with the victory of the Azerbaijani Army.
From mid-March 2016, Armenians began intensively violating the ceasefire. Starting from the early hours of April 2, the Azerbaijani Army positions and residential areas along the entire front line were subjected to intensive fire from the enemy side. As a result, Armenians carried out armed provocations along the line of contact of troops from April 2 to 5. During the provocations, attacks were also made on the civilian population. As a result of these events, the Azerbaijani Army suffered martyrs, and there were also deaths and injuries among the civilian population.
During the battles, the Azerbaijani Army also delivered retaliatory strikes against Armenian positions, and during the rapid counter-offensive carried out, more than 2,000 hectares of territory were liberated, and even more territory came under operational control. The heights around Talish village, which could pose a threat to Goranboy district and the city of Naftalan, were completely cleared of enemy forces. In order to protect the city of Horadiz from enemy threat, the strategically important height called Lala Tapa, located in the direction of the Fuzuli district and providing the ability to control a wide area, also came under the control of the Azerbaijani Army.
