Mongolia set to host UNCCD COP17

Mongolia will host the 17th session of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD COP17), with over 10,000 delegates from more than 190 countries expected to attend, SİA reports, citing MONTSAME.

The conference will focus on critical environmental challenges, including desertification, land degradation, drought, and pastureland management, while exploring strategies to tackle these issues.

By hosting COP17, Mongolia aims to highlight its commitment to combating desertification and to strengthen international cooperation, while also boosting tourism. The event will provide a platform to showcase the country’s environmental policies and climate change mitigation efforts, exchange knowledge and best practices with other nations, and attract potential investments and financial support for land and pasture management projects.

In addition, the conference will facilitate the introduction of innovative technologies and scientific insights in Mongolia, while offering delegates a chance to experience the nation’s culture and traditions. Local citizens will also have opportunities to engage through volunteer programs, cultural activities, and social campaigns, creating temporary employment and stimulating economic activity in the tourism, entertainment, and transport sectors.
