IDEA rescues several ostriches and parrots in Sumgayit city following investigation

On September 2, an urgent inspection was carried out at the “Turan” restaurant in Sumgayit’s Nasimi cultural and recreation park, initiated by the International Dialogue for Environmental Action (IDEA) Public Union with the participation of representatives from the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, SİA reports.

The inspection revealed that 2 ostriches and 13 rose-ringed parakeets (parrots) were being kept illegally on the premises. The animals were taken by veterinary specialists from Baku Zoo and are now undergoing medical examination and rehabilitation.

Officials noted that the parrots will later be reintroduced into nature as part of IDEA’s “Urban Ecology” project, established under the initiative of the Vice President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and founder of IDEA, Leyla Aliyeva. The organization emphasized that expanded greening and landscaping efforts in recent years have created favorable conditions for the return of various fauna species to urban areas.

IDEA Public Union once again called on citizens to protect nature and refrain from keeping wild animals illegally, urging the public to report such cases via its 1113 “Emergency Nature Assistance” hotline or official social media channels.
