Electricity demand in Azerbaijan reached a record 4,871 MW at 15:00 on August 6.
SİA informs Azerenerji that daily electricity consumption in the country also rose, amounting to approximately 100 million kWh.
“The sharp increase in consumption is driven not only by hot weather, high humidity, and the intensive use of cooling systems and entertainment facilities. The main factor is the continuous and dynamic development of the country’s economy, industry, residential construction, and all sectors as a whole,” the company stated.
For comparison, in the summer of 2018, during air temperatures of 40–42°C, peak demand stood at 3,625 MW. Over the past seven years, this figure has increased by more than 1,200 MW.
In response to the growing demand and in line with the president’s instructions, Azerenerji has expanded generation capacity and substations, implemented modern SCADA systems, relay protection, emergency automation, and frequency regulation systems, as well as upgraded reactive power compensation equipment.
“At present, the company is capable not only of fully meeting the country’s electricity needs but also of producing more than is required,” the statement added.
