Vladanka Andreeva: Corruption threatens sustainable development

Corruption threatens all components of sustainable development, UN Resident Coordinator in Azerbaijan Vladanka Andreeva said at the opening of the sixth plenary meeting of the Global Operational Network of Anti-Corruption Law Enforcement Authorities - GlobE Network in Baku, Report informs.

She reminded that there are just under five years left to implement the 2030 Agenda and ensure sustainable and green development around the world.

"Whether it is eradicating poverty, reducing inequality or protecting our planet, corruption threatens all components of sustainable development. It distorts the economy, weakens institutions and affects the most vulnerable segments of the population. We really need a broad partnership to strengthen oversight, accountability, transparency and the use of existing global anti-corruption tools provided for by the Convention," she noted.

Andreeva emphasized that Azerbaijan is an active member of the GlobE Network, which "is an important step in the joint fight against corruption."

She expressed hope that Azerbaijan, as an active member of the GlobE Network, will continue to actively participate in strengthening the fight against corruption.
