ICRC staff visits ethnic Armenian detainees in Azerbaijan on war crimes charges

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) staff made another visit in January 2025 to ethnic Armenian individuals detained in Azerbaijan on war crimes charges, Ilaha Huseynova, head of the Public Relations Department of the ICRC Azerbaijan, told SİA.

Huseynova stated that one-on-one meetings were held with the detainees, and conditions were established to facilitate their contact with families: "In accordance with its mandate, during such visits, the ICRC evaluates the treatment of detainees and the conditions of their detention. The ICRC also ensures that individuals can restore or maintain contact with their families. In line with ICRC procedures, observations and recommendations from these visits are only shared and discussed with the detaining party."

Azerbaijan's law enforcement agencies have detained and brought to Baku "presidents" of the former illegal regime in Karabakh: Arkadi Ghukasyan, Bako Sahakyan, Arayik Harutyunyan, "foreign minister" David Babayan, "parliament speaker" David Ishkhanyan, generals Levon Mnatsakanyan and David Manukyan, and "state minister" Ruben Vardanyan.
