Event held in Slovenia in memory of Azerbaijani hero Mehdi Huseynzadeh

A ceremony dedicated to the memory of the legendary Azerbaijani hero Mehdi Huseynzadeh - Mikhaylo, took place in the town of Nova Gorica in Slovenia, SIA reports citing AZERTAC.

The event commenced with the playing of the national anthems of Azerbaijan and Slovenia, followed by speeches delivered by dignitaries including Ambassador Rovshan Sadiqbeyli, leader of the Azerbaijan-Slovenia inter-parliamentary relations working group Agalar Valiyev, President of the Slovenia-Azerbaijan Friendship Society Andrey Kompara, and others.

During the speeches by the Azerbaijani delegation, gratitude was expressed on behalf of the Azerbaijani government and people to the state and people of Slovenia for cherishing the memory of Mixaylon. The gathering was noted as a long-standing beautiful tradition of Azerbaijani and Slovenian delegations coming together in Nova Gorica to honor the memory of the legendary partisan Mixaylon. The functioning of Mehdi Huseynzadeh's memorial museum in Slovenia and the continual attention to his monument were identified as sources of pride for our nation.

Participants were informed about the initiative of immortalizing Mehdi Huseynzadeh's name during the Soviet era by the Leader of the Azerbaijani nation Heydar Aliyev and its successful continuation by President Ilham Aliyev. Mehdi Huseynzadeh's short but meaningful life and honorable path of struggle were highlighted as a shining example for current and future generations, emphasizing the strengthening of brotherhood ties between our peoples.

The bond of strong friendship between Azerbaijan and Slovenia was emphasized by the Slovenian delegation, expressing gratitude to the Azerbaijani people for the heroic son Mehdi Huseynzadeh. It was noted that the respect and deep admiration for Mixaylon's memory in Slovenia further strengthens our friendship relations and serves as a testament to the enduring power of human connections.

The event continued with cultural programs prepared by local communities, including songs, poems, and musical pieces dedicated to the heroes who fought for Slovenia's freedom. Participants also visited the memorial and museum established in honor of Mixaylon, gaining insights into his life and the path he walked.

Subsequently, the Azerbaijani and Slovenian delegations traveled to Vitovlje village, where Mixaylon tragically lost his life in heavy fighting against German Nazis in November 1944. They laid wreaths at the memorial plaque honoring Mixaylon and paid tribute to his memory at the site of his death.

At the conclusion of the event, both delegations, alongside local residents and veteran organizations, visited Mehdi Huseynzadeh's grave in the town of Cepovan, paying their respects with the laying of wreaths. During the visit, the Azerbaijani delegation also held a meeting with the Mayor of Nova Gorica, discussing the prospects for expanding cooperation in culture, education, and other fields.

Gratitude was expressed to the receiving party for their high attention and appreciation shown for Mixaylon's memory, which has become a shining symbol of our friendship relations.
