"Tomorrow we celebrate the Day of Restoration of Independence of Azerbaijan," Chair of the Milli Majlis (Azerbaijani Parliament) Sahiba Gafarova said at the meeting of the Milli Majlis held today, SİA reports.
The Chairperson noted that this is a very historical day: “The early 90s of the last century is a period when our country experienced difficult times. The government at that time was increasing the tension in the country. We lost Garabagh during these years. As fate would have it, this time the phenomenon of Heydar Aliyev did not allow the loss of our state independence. He managed to preserve the political existence of Azerbaijan. Today's strong Azerbaijan is a sign of National Leader Haydar Aliyev's sacrifice for the sake of the people and the motherland. The actions and steps he took in this building constitute the glorious pages of our history of parliamentarism. The state administration system was improved, and the First Vice-President Institute was established.
The liberation of our lands from occupation under the leadership of Victorious Commander-in-Chief has opened up new development directions for Azerbaijan. On October 15, the raising of Azerbaijani flag in Khankandi, Aghdara, Khojaly by Ilham Aliyev was one of the proud days of our nation. The victory over the enemy was the biggest contribution to the 100th anniversary of the National Leader. The head of state gave his messages in his speech in Khankandi as well. I propose that on the occasion of Day of Restoration of Independence, we address congratulatory letters to the President Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva.”
The proposal was accepted.
The Chairperson also reminded that today is the anniversary of the Ganja being hit by rocket fire: “We ask God’s mercy on the martyred and healing to the injured.”
