Azerbaijan Food Safety Agency carries out inspections in School Food blocks
The Food Safety Agency of Azerbaijan(AQTA) has released information on the preliminary results of the investigations conducted in connection with the health concerns of 7 students after eating food in the secondary school number 20 named after A. Huseynzade, located in the Yasamal district of the capital.
According to the information provided by the Information Assurance and Innovative Solutions Department of the Agency to SIA, during the inspection, it was found that on April 6, 7 students studying in different classes of that school received fried chicken breast meat (nuggets), and 1 student received doner (shawarma) sold by "TAIS IKF" LLC, which serves in the canteen of the educational institution. After ingesting the said food, pains in the epigastric region, nausea, headache, dizziness were observed in the students. Immediately after providing first aid to the students, emergency medical assistance was requested by the school's medical center.
During the inspection of the secondary school No. 20 in connection with the incident, it was found that "TAIS IKF" LLC operates in the canteen under a lease agreement, and the food that caused the poisoning was brought to the school by the company, packed in thermoboxes. The foods were placed in displays (hot and cold displays, open displays) and sold. During the school inspection, it was also determined that the temperature and humidity were not controlled after the products were brought to the institution.
During the inspection, samples of 26 different types of food products, smear samples from the hands of 6 employees and 20 smear samples from various surfaces, used tools and supplies were taken and submitted to the appropriate testing laboratories of the Food Safety Institute under the agency for laboratory examinations. Unplanned inspection measures are also continued by the Food Safety Agency at the food preparation and delivery enterprise belonging to "TAIS IKF" LLC operating at 5 A. Qayibov Street, Narimanov District, Baku. The public will be further informed about the result of the inspection.
For your information, during 2022-2023, the agency carried out inspections in 174 general educational institutions provided with food blocks in order to check the minimum quality and safety indicators of food products, including the level of organization of nutrition. Within the scope of inspections, the enterprise's food safety registration, the initial and periodic medical examination of the staff of the food block, compliance with the requirements for the supply, storage, labeling and packaging of food products in the food blocks, minimum quality and safety indicators and the accompanying documents confirming them, food blocks compliance with sanitary-technical and sanitary-hygienic norms was examined and relevant acts were drawn up. During the inspection, various defects were found in 172 general educational institutions, and in 42 of them, defects that did not create administrative responsibility (failure to register food safety), and in 130, defects that created administrative responsibility were identified, as a result, the accountable individuals of the educational institution were brought to administrative responsibility.
One of such inspections was carried out in secondary school number 20. On January 16-18 of the current year, during the inspection of the school's food block, cases of violation of the requirements of technical normative legal acts in the field of food were discovered, administrative responsibility was taken against the official of the school, and mandatory instructions were given to eliminate the deficiencies.
