Azerbaijan's MFA: Armenia is reneging on its obligations over mines

The statement of the Prime Minister of Armenia, which distorts the decision of the International Court of Justice on landmines, shows that the Armenian side is still reneging on its obligations over this issue, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan said, SİA informs.

“However, hearings at the Court have once again shown that the reports to international organizations that Armenia does not produce or bury mines are based on lies. The Court’s decision not to revisit its prior conclusion that Armenia’s placement of landmines does not meet the requirements for the issuance of provisional measures is not a decision on its essence,” MFA said.

It was also emphasized that this decision of the Court does not exempt Armenia from violations of its obligations, such as placing landmines and mine traps in the territories of Azerbaijan, transporting mines manufactured in 2021 to the territories of Azerbaijan by misusing the Lachin road, and not providing real maps of the mined areas: “In general, the Court will consider the issue of mine threat separately on its essence.”
