“Unfortunately, though, the fight against drug addiction is conducted at the level of the state in Azerbaijan, the number of drug users is increasing,” said Sabina Aliyeva, the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan, SİA reports.
According to her, this number sharply increased among women: “When visiting penitentiaries and seeing female prisoners detained due to drug crimes, affects me very badly. According to the statistics, if a total of 33788 people were officially registered as drug users in 2020, this year this figure was 34602.”
