Ombudsman meets with the newly appointed Ambassador of Germany

​The Ombudsman of Azerbaijan, Sabina Aliyeva received the newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Germany, Ralf Horlemann

At the meeting to get to know, the Ombudsman gave the diplomat extensive information about the works towards protection of the rights of various population groups and international cooperation. In that meeting, measures taken to ensure the rights of children, people with disabilities, and migrants were touched upon as well.

S. Aliyeva, while speaking about the Ombudsman Office’s training courses for local state bodies and civil society members held in the districts in 2021 with the support of the German Corporation for International Cooperation (GIZ) on the rule of law and good governance, emphasized the importance of such pieces of training in terms of the development of legal culture in society and the promotion of good governance.

The Ombudsman also talked about her activities during the Patriotic War and post-war period, as well as the reports on violations of international humanitarian law committed by Armenia.

Also, it was stressed that despite repeatedly raising the issue of the disappearance of nearly 4,000 Azerbaijanis, the Armenian side did not take any steps to bring clarification to the fate of those missing persons.

During the meeting, an exchange of views was held on how to continue a joint cooperation in the field of promotion and education of human rights.

In turn, Ambassador R. Horlemann thanked for the meeting and expressed his interest in cooperation with the Ombudsman.

In the end, the Ombudsman Office’s educational materials were presented to the guests.
