Shavkat Mirziyoyev welcomes launch of Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway after modernization

Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has welcomed the launch of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway corridor after modernization and proposed exploring its integration with the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway line currently under construction, SİA informs referring to the press service of the Uzbek president.

The statement was made during a meeting between Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze in Tbilisi.

The parties discussed strengthening transport and transit cooperation and creating favorable conditions for more fully exploiting the two countries' potential in this area. Particular attention was paid to expanding the use of the Poti and Batumi ports for transporting Uzbek cargo. Plans to create a logistics hub with an industrial zone and a showroom for Uzbek products were also supported.

In addition to the transport agenda, Mirziyoyev and Kobakhidze discussed the development of trade, economic, investment, industrial, tourism, and cultural and humanitarian cooperation.

Following the talks, the parties agreed to develop a separate roadmap to increase mutual trade turnover to $1 billion in the coming years, eliminate trade imbalances, and expand mutual product supplies.

Furthermore, agreements were reached on implementing new joint projects in the agricultural, energy, electrical, pharmaceutical, food, and light industries, construction materials production, digitalization, IT, digital banking, and tourism. To support these project initiatives, it was proposed to establish a joint investment fund.

A decision was also made to establish an embassy of Uzbekistan in Georgia. Following the talks, a joint roadmap for implementing the agreements reached will be developed.
