Nga Kor Ming: Azerbaijan has set attendance record of World Urban Forum

Malaysia is happy that Baku has set the attendance record of the World Urban Forum, previously set by Kuala Lumpur, acting President of the UN-Habitat Assembly Nga Kor Ming said at the opening ceremony of the Malaysian pavilion held within the framework of WUF13 in Baku.

According to SİA, he noted that during WUF9 in Kuala Lumpur, the forum became the largest event of its kind at the time, bringing together more than 25,000 participants.

"We are happy to see that today this record has been setn by Azerbaijan, with the number of participants reaching 42,000. This shows that we are moving in the right direction, raising people's awareness that we share a common mission and a common future," Ming stressed.

He noted that Malaysia reaffirms its commitment to the forum's theme - "Housing for Peace: Safe and Resilient Cities and Communities" - and its readiness to cooperate in building inclusive and sustainable cities.

Nga Kor Ming also said that nearly 80% of Malaysia's population now lives in urban areas, while the country views urbanization as an opportunity for innovation and development.

According to him, by 2023 the number of affordable homes in Malaysia exceeded 1.1 million, surpassing the targets set under the country"s 12th development plan. He added that more than 511,000 affordable homes have currently been built in the country, while the homeownership rate has reached 77%.
