Baghaei: Iran will not surrender to US maximalist demands

“At the current stage, the United States has announced that it cannot accept Iran’s proposal; however, it is expected that a more precise assessment will be obtained through Pakistan,” spokesperson for Iran’s Foreign Ministry Esmaeil Baghaei said, APA reports.

He said that Iran will not surrender to the maximalist demands of the United States, as it considers these demands unfair.

According to Baghaei, as long as Iran remains a member of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, it should be able to benefit from the rights granted by the treaty, including the right to use nuclear energy for peaceful purposes: “The other side, however, ignores the reports of the International Atomic Energy Agency confirming the completely peaceful nature of Iran’s nuclear program.”

The Foreign Ministry spokesperson noted that Tehran had been ready to agree on a memorandum of understanding that would put into written form principles based on international law and the UN Charter: “No one could question the correctness and importance of these principles. After that, within a 30-day period, extendable if necessary, the details of a possible agreement were to be discussed. This was the general framework, and we need to see what the next step will be.”

Baghaei added that the Iranian army is prepared for every scenario and that Tehran has no option other than a harsh and decisive response: “Iran demonstrated this in June last year and during the recent war as well, because this is an unjust war.”
