Azerbaijan at UN: Human rights mechanisms should be free from double standards

Azerbaijan has reaffirmed its commitment to constructive dialogue and cooperation with UN human rights bodies and mechanisms, reads a statement made by Azerbaijan during the discussion of agenda item 5 of the UN Human Rights Council, SİA informs.

"We attach great importance to the work of special procedures mandate holders. Their activities should be carried out strictly within their mandate, with full respect for international law, the UN Charter, relevant resolutions, and the Code of Conduct. Constructive cooperation with States is essential, and the information they provide should be given due consideration in a spirit of engagement," the statement noted.

It emphasized that Azerbaijan considers genuine dialogue with human rights mechanisms essential for better mutual understanding and increased effectiveness: "We will actively continue to cooperate with UN human rights mechanisms as part of our broader efforts to promote and protect human rights."

The statement also notes: "Looking back on eight decades of the United Nations, we should strengthen our efforts to ensure that human rights mechanisms are effective, transparent, and free from politicization and double standards. In doing so, we can strengthen our collective commitment to the promotion and protection of human rights worldwide."
