Baku welcomed a high-level delegation on September 23 as Sahiba Gafarova, Speaker of the Azerbaijani Parliament, met with Xaysana Khodphouthone, Chief Prosecutor of the Supreme People’s Prosecutor’s Office of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, the parliament's press service told SİA.
The meeting took place alongside the international conference “Guardians of Sovereignty: The Status of the Prosecutor’s Office in the Constitution.”
Gafarova emphasized the conference’s importance, highlighting its role in sharing best practices in prosecutorial work and tackling common challenges. She also noted the strong bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Laos across multiple sectors, and their active cooperation within international organizations such as the United Nations (UN) and the Non-Aligned Movement.
The discussion touched on political party collaboration, underscoring the close interaction between the New Azerbaijan Party and the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party through the Asia Political Parties International Conference. Both sides highlighted how parliamentary exchanges and collaboration via international platforms, including the Inter-Parliamentary Union and the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network, strengthen bilateral ties.
Chief Prosecutor Khodphouthone praised the organization of the Baku conference and its role in advancing cooperation among prosecutorial institutions of friendly nations. He congratulated Azerbaijan on the 30th anniversary of its Constitution and discussed opportunities to further develop inter-parliamentary, economic, and logistical collaboration.
