Azerbaijan, Iran expand on prospects for cooperation

Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Chairman of the State Commission on Economic, Trade and Humanitarian Cooperation between Azerbaijan and the Islamic Republic of Iran from the Azerbaijani side, Shahin Mustafayev, met with Iran’s Minister of Roads and Urban Development, Farzaneh Sadegh, who chairs the commission from the Iranian side, during his visit to Tehran, SİA reports, citing the Cabinet of Ministers.

The meeting reviewed the implementation of issues arising from the Memorandum of Understanding signed at the latest session of the Joint State Commission, as well as the current state of joint projects. Discussions covered the present situation and future expansion of cooperation in the fields of economy, transport, customs, borders, oil, gas, trade, investment, and humanitarian affairs.

The sides also exchanged information on the construction of the Agband–Kalaleh bridge under the Araz corridor and the widening of the Kalaleh–Julfa road. In line with the instructions of the Presidents of both countries, satisfaction was expressed with the launch of direct Baku–Tehran–Baku and Baku–Tabriz–Baku flights, while the possibility of increasing flight frequencies and resolving issues in transit transportation was discussed.

During his Tehran visit, Deputy Prime Minister Mustafayev also met with Iran’s Minister of Energy, Abbas Aliabadi. The talks focused on the Khudafarin–Giz Galasi and Ordubad–Marazad projects, as well as cooperation on electricity exchange and the joint efficient use of water resources.
