Ziyafat Asgarov: Sovereignty - sacred concept for every state, nation

From 1991 to 1993, the chaotic situation in Azerbaijan made it impossible to adopt a constitution, Deputy Chairman of the Parliament Ziyafat Asgarov said at a conference dedicated to State Sovereignty Day, held in parliament on September 19 as part of the "Year of Constitution and Sovereignty," SİA informs.

He recalled that in May 1995, a Constitutional Commission chaired by national leader Heydar Aliyev was formed: "On November 12, 1995, our first national constitution was drafted. Subsequently, referendums were held in 2002, 2008, and 2016. The document emphasized the protection of citizens' rights and freedoms and judicial reforms. Certainly, holding these referendums was necessary."

The deputy chairman noted that following the anti-terrorism measures of 2023, Azerbaijan resolved the issue of sovereignty, and, as President Ilham Aliyev put it, "the final nail in the coffin of separatism" was driven: "Sovereignty is a sacred concept for every state and people. The concept of sovereignty is extremely important in a state's domestic and foreign policy."
