Azerbaijani Parliament speaker meets with newly appointed Israeli ambassador

Speaker of the Azerbaijani Parliament Sahiba Gafarova met with Ronen Krausz, the newly appointed Ambassador of Israel to Azerbaijan, on September 11, the press service of the parliament told SİA.

Gafarova congratulated the ambassador on assuming his post and wished him success in his diplomatic activities. The meeting underscored satisfaction with the dynamic growth of cooperation between the two partner states and pointed to new avenues for expanding ties alongside traditional areas of collaboration.

Attention was also drawn to the significance of human connections as an indicator of the positive relations between Azerbaijan and Israel. Gafarova emphasized that Jewish communities have lived peacefully in Azerbaijan for centuries in an atmosphere of friendship and mutual understanding. She also noted that the Azerbaijani community in Israel, including compatriots of Jewish origin, plays a valuable role in advancing bilateral relations.

The contribution of legislative bodies to strengthening bilateral cooperation was highlighted as well. Recalling her earlier meeting this year with Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana in Uzbekistan, Gafarova stressed the importance of parliamentary exchanges, reciprocal visits, and the activities of friendship groups.

Discussions further touched upon President Ilham Aliyev’s working trip to the United States at the invitation of President Donald Trump, during which important agreements were reached and documents signed. Gafarova underlined the importance of fulfilling commitments under the Washington accords and expressed hope that a peace agreement would be signed soon.

The meeting wrapped up with an exchange of views on other issues of mutual concern.
