New requirements for the activities of news agencies in Azerbaijan have come into force following the approval of amendments to the Law “On Media” by President Ilham Aliyev.
According to SİA, under the amendments, an agency must have at least 20 contracts with other media entities for the provision or exchange of information, as well as accredited journalists in at least five foreign countries.
In addition, for 20 days each month, at least 80% of the published content must comply with the requirements of Article 60.5 of the Law “On Media.”
Under this article, online media activity is considered regular if at least 20 informational materials are published daily for 20 days within a month.
The amendments also stipulate that if a media entity is not registered in the Media Register, it is prohibited from producing or distributing printed materials, whether by the entity itself or by its publisher or distributor.
The amendments were approved by a majority vote in the final reading.
