Azerbaijani captured during Patriotic War: ‘I was tortured’

Victim Valiahad Valiyev, who testified during the ongoing court hearing at the Baku Military Court on July 25, said that during the 44-day war in 2020, he was captured by Armenian armed forces after receiving bullet and shrapnel wounds in Zangilan on October 22, SİA informs.

Valiyev said his fellow soldiers were martyred at that time.

The victim said that after recovering during his captivity, he was subjected to torture, including having the big toe of his right foot squeezed with pliers, and receiving punches and kicks to his face, as well as blows with batons to his legs and arms.

He was handed over to Azerbaijan on December 14.

The trial continues for Armenian citizens accused of crimes against peace and humanity, including war crimes, acts of terrorism, the preparation and execution of aggressive war, genocide, violations of war laws and rules, forcible seizure and retention of power, as well as financing terrorism, among other offenses stemming from Armenia's military aggression.
