Ambassador Akgun says Nakhchivan holds special spiritual importance for Türkiye
Turkish Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Birol Akgun, has described Nakhchivan as a land of deep spiritual significance for Türkiye.
According to Report, the ambassador made the remarks during his first official visit to Nakhchivan as Turkish envoy in Baku.
“Nakhchivan is a land of special spiritual value for us. It is the homeland of National Leader Heydar Aliyev and the only region where Türkiye shares a land border with Azerbaijan. This is why it is remembered in history as the place where the ‘Bridge of Hope’ was opened,” Akgün said.
He noted that Nakhchivan has undergone significant economic development over the past 30 years, thanks in part to the special attention of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.
“The economic and social projects implemented here clearly reflect this care, and we are pleased to witness this progress. Türkiye and Nakhchivan have always enjoyed strong ties of friendship and brotherhood. The land border further strengthens these connections. Turkish citizens frequently visit Nakhchivan and follow its development closely,” he added.
Ambassador Akgun emphasized that the purpose of his visit was to boost economic and trade cooperation between Türkiye and Nakhchivan.
“In the period following the Second Karabakh War, the opening of the Zangazur corridor holds great importance for the region. Our hope is that this corridor will serve as a bridge that strengthens regional peace and cooperation while supporting the Middle Corridor,” he said.
