The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed its gratitude to Azerbaijan for assisting in the return of Russian nationals from Iran amid Israeli attacks, SİA informs, citing the Russian Foreign Ministry.
"We express our appreciation to the Azerbaijani side for providing transportation from the Azerbaijani–Iranian border to Baku, for accommodating the group in a hotel, and for assisting in their return home," the ministry said.
According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, on the night of June 14, 2025, a first group of 86 Russian nationals (including two children) crossed the land border from Iran into Azerbaijan through the Astara checkpoint with the participation of the Russian embassies in Tehran and Baku.
"The group includes a film crew led by Russian filmmaker Fyodor Bondarchuk. In addition to Russian nationals, there are also citizens of Belarus, Latvia, Serbia, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan," the ministry added.
