Erdogan and Trump weigh reciprocal visits amid strengthening ties

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan may visit Washington in the near future, while former US President Donald Trump is also considering a trip to Türkiye, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said on Wednesday.

SİA informs via the Milliyet newspaper that Fidan said planning is underway for potential bilateral visits, with both leaders expected to meet on the sidelines of the NATO summit scheduled for June 24–25 in The Hague.

“Our president may visit Washington. A visit by Mr. Trump to Türkiye is also possible,” Mr. Fidan said. “They often communicate by phone, and their conversations are extremely productive.”

The two leaders reportedly held a phone call on May 5, after which President Erdogan noted that Trump had extended a formal invitation for a visit to the United States. While specific dates have not been announced, Turkish media outlets have speculated that the trip could occur as early as June.
