Ombudsperson: Innovations creating qualitatively new media environment

The rapid transition to digital technologies, modernization of the media environment and other similar innovations in recent years have formed a qualitatively new media environment in Azerbaijan, Ombudsperson Sabina Aliyeva said at the second forum on the topic "Public Processes in the Media Space" in Baku, SİA informs.

She emphasized that one of the main principles of building a legal state is the existence of independent media, freedom of thought, speech and press.

Media play an important role in legal education of society, prompt and objective information about ongoing processes, she said.

Aliyeva mentioned the risks associated with disinformation, incitement to hatred, invasion of privacy, digital harassment, cyberbullying, provoking aggressive behavior.

She also added that the activities of the media should be regulated by both legal and ethical frameworks, national and moral values ​​should be taken into account, this activity should comply with the principles of respect and observance of human rights.
