President's Assistant: Azerbaijan lays foundation for peace in South Caucasus
Azerbaijan ended the conflict itself with decisive steps and responsible state governance, said Hikmat Hajiyev, Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan - Head of the Foreign Policy Department of the Presidential Administration, Report informs.
He made the remark at the Karabakh University as part of the diplomatic corps’ visit to Khankandi.
Hajiyev noted that Azerbaijan's approach not only ended the conflict but also laid the foundation for long-term reconciliation and peace in the South Caucasus:
"Transitional justice is extremely important in every post-conflict situation. The perpetrators of crimes committed against the Azerbaijani people, including war crimes and crimes against humanity, are already being held accountable before the law. Currently, court proceedings are continuing in Azerbaijan.
We hope that justice will be established as a result of transparent and open court investigations. This is an essential component of any post-conflict process. Azerbaijan has created a new status quo in the South Caucasus region based on the principles of international law and territorial integrity."
The President's Assistant emphasized that the Karabakh and Eastern Zangazur regions are entering a stage of reconstruction, transformation, and restoration.
